Rotadairon Full Demo

What is a Rotadairon soil cultivator and what does it do?

A Rotadairon is a reverse rotation rototiller with specially designed and patented blades that is engineered to perform multiple tasks at the same time. It tills the ground in a clockwise direction (opposite of the moving power unit) and screens and buries rocks and debris leaving a significant layer of fine soil which is then graded and compacted into a flawless seed bed.

How are the machines priced?

The machines are priced at FOB Salem, OR, USA plus shipping to your location. There is no sales tax in Oregon.

Why not just use a rototiller?

The Rotadairon falls under the category of “soil renovator”, “soil cultivator”, “rotavator”, “stone burier”, etc and its scope of operations is more nuanced than a rototiller. If all you need is a tiller this machine is not for you. That said, you CAN just till with the Rotadairon if that is your goal. Simply remove the mesh roller, and grader bar, lift the screening tines, and start tilling. This video shows a demonstration at 2:00.

Do you have a refund policy?

Yes. If you’re not satisfied with the machine we will give you a full refund less the cost of freight, repair, cleaning, and the period of time for which you have rented it. So we recommend using your machine as soon as you get it because you will know within the first 15 minutes if it is what you need.

Can it really do as advertised?

Yes. The Rotadairon is designed to break up and bury grass, clods, rocks, and other organic debris leaving a fine compacted finish grade. However, the size of machine will determine the till depth and size of debris broken up and buried. This spec sheet will help determine the model for you.

Will it fit my power unit?

It will fit any PTO driven machine. This includes skid steers, mini-skids, and tractors.

Which model is best for me?

There are a few important factors that help determine this answer. The horsepower and GPM flow of your power unit will help narrow it down. After that it’s a matter of intended application. For instance, are you using it for residential landscape installation where a compact unit is needed to navigate a tight space into a back yard 9where an STH 36 would work) or is your native soil prone to having 10.2cm (4”) diameter rocks where having the extra working depth of a standard line model (like an RD 150) would be appropriate? Maybe you want it for large scale farming and your main goal is processing as much space as possible. In that case the heavy duty RX agricultural stone burier models will be your best choice as those models reach a working width of 3.7m (145”). On top of all of that, most models have the option to substitute non-standard compaction rollers, including ringed cast iron or ringed cultipackers for the standard expanded mesh rollers.

Really, the primary determinant to picking a machine is the capacity of your preferred power unit as all the machines perform the same function but each model is rated for specific HP/GPM hydraulic flow. For more info take a look at spec sheet on the Machines page.

Will it bury large rocks?

Define “large.” For an RD145, which has a tilling depth of 5.5”(14cm), a 6” diameter rock will not be buried below the surface. However, if you were to use an RD250 which has a tilling depth of 6.5”, that 6” rock won’t be a problem. Every site is different as is the tilling depth of each class of machine and some areas will require more site-prep depending on which machine you’re using.

Will it take any damage if it hits a large rock, stump, metal or random debris?

All models are equipped with a clutch that will disengage the rotor shaft in the event you encounter a damaging or immovable object. If this happens, simply raise the machine, remove the object, and continue operations. Each machine is built with high strength steel and double wall construction and is designed to endure a variety of debris. Under normal operating conditions the Rotadairon will not be damaged.

Are there custom options available?

Yes. Many models have a seeder box option to seed as you go. Also, all models have a standard mesh roller which compacts the seedbed and leaves dimples for the seed but it does not provide the amount of compaction that many professionals like to see before seeding. For this reason, a heavier cast iron packer roller exists for a more firmly compacted seed bed. Yet another option will substitute the manual adjustable sliding roller, which offsets the roller right or left of center to cover tire tracks or to squeeze next to a sidewalk or fence, etc, for a hydraulic roller that can be adjusted from the power unit itself.

How well does it fair against residual tree roots after ripping out the stumps?

Well it is a tillage machine and doesn't have the same capacity as a stump grinder. If it encounters long, tendril-like roots they'll end up caught in the rotor shaft and you'll have to manually remove them at some point. Likewise if there is debris in the soil that it too large for that model to handle it will not be capable to ripping and shredding everything it runs into like one of the larger agricultural models.

If the roots are large, depending on how solid and / or decayed they are, the machine will either till them in with the rest of the soil or end up skimming the surface of the roots and jump up and down.

Best to rip the soil and remove debris too large for you model to handle.

Do you offer an in person demo?

Logistics prohibit us from offering an in person demo at this time.

Will it really create a level grade?

Within the working width of the machine, one pass, properly adjusted will create a level grade.

Can I use Rotadairon in untilled soil?

Rotadairon will achieve best results in previously loosened soil. However, all sites are different and a professional’s expertise will benefit the user. Sometimes the Rotadairon can be used to loosen and till the soil, other times more soil preparation is necessary

I can’t justify the cost for just one project. Can you help?

Yes. If you have a project requiring the benefits of this machine we offer contract services. We’ll come to the site with the equipment and trained personal and do the job for you. Often for a fraction of your usual costs. We can also rent one to you.

Are there any problems with the machine I should know about before I buy?

No. The attention to detail in its engineering, the materials used in its construction, the depth of foresight embedded in its design to address the problems faced by professionals, and the ease of use make Rotadairon the yardstick by which all other stone buriers, soil cultivators, conditioners, and rotavators are measured.

Are there any operational issues I should know about?

A common issue faced by users is appropriate ground speed. We recommend you start with a .5mph ground speed and a maximum speed of 1mph depending on site conditions and capabilities of your power unit. One thing you should not do is speed through an unprocessed site at 4mph and expect anything other than unburied debris and unleveled soil and you certainly shouldn’t expect anything resembling the results you see in pictures. “But what if I need to get the work done faster?” you might ask. Not to worry. What you lose in quick soil conditioning you gain in less total time on the job as a result of fewer steps to a ready seedbed.

Is there any reason I would regret my purchase?

If your goal is to produce great seedbeds while cutting labor costs and site preparation steps, you have the proper power unit for the machine in question, and enough of the type of work that justifies its frequent usage then the answer is no. According to many professionals Rotadairon is the best finish grade soil cultivator on the market.
